Transformer launches its Do You Know Where Your Art Comes From? series with Locally Sourced
Transformer launches its Do You Know Where Your Art Comes From? series with Locally Sourced (Jan 24 - March 15, 2015), the first of four exhibitions to be resented over two years at the American University Museum and the Rotunda of the Katzen Arts Center.
Comprehensively showcasing artists and organizations that incorporate a range of visual art practices including performative, experiential, social, pedagogical, Do You Know Where Your Art Comes From? investigates current and future models of art organizing by highlighting various contemporary platforms artists and arts organizations have initiated to develop, create, and present art. This exhibition series was inspired by the launch of Common Field, a new network of artist projects and spaces of which Transformer is a Founding Member. Common Field is supported by The Andy Warhol Foundation. Common Field was recently profiled by Joel Wachs, President of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, in the New York Times.
Do You Know Where Your Art Comes From? is curated by Victoria Reis, Executive & Artistic Director of Transformer, in collaboration with Tim Doud, Associate Professor of Art and coordinator of the Visiting Artist Program at American University.

Transformer presents a multi-media installation by Brooklyn-based Israeli artist Tamar Ettun, showcasing a selection of sculptures, photographs and video from a recent series entitled Performing Stillness. Investigating sculpture and performance’s dual relationship to movement and stillness, temporality and permanence, the works exhibited explore the inversion of these mediums’ capabilities, questioning how sculpture and performance can switch roles and stimulate a physical reaction or sensation within the viewer.
