Pre-View Brunch with Kate Damon

PRE-VIEW BRUNCH WITH KATE DAMON

An Emerging Collectors Circle Collector's View Event
Sunday, April 22nd from 11:30am -1pm

Each spring Transformer works with DC's prominent contemporary art collectors to present Collector's View - a series of intimate receptions in collector's homes, with Hosts sharing their private art collections and providing participants an intimate, insider’s perspective on the motivations, interests, and passions of their dynamic collections.

In celebration of our 11th season of Collector's View, we are excited to present a unique line-up of Views highlighting the intersection of architecture, design, and art.

For our Emerging Collectors Circle members we are excited to offer a pre-View of this programming with an exclusive Emerging Collectors View with our esteemed Board Member, Kate Damon at her home in Shaw, DC:

Kate Damon welcomes Transformer's Emerging Collectors Circle and guests to brunch in her 4th floor loft space in The Lafayette, to View her extensive contemporary art collection, and learn about how she got started as collector. Featured on the Historic National Registrar, The Lafayette is a building with a rich DC art history. Kate's 5000 sq ft space spans the top floor of the building, and features notable large scale works of art, including the Workers Rights Fist by Michael Murphy, featured in the 2009 inauguration celebration for President Barack Obama.

Inspired by a college design course at American University that focused on what is now the Kreeger Museum, and what was once the home of David and Carmen Kreeger, Kate began collecting art in the late 90's. She started by collecting and supporting her friends such as the Decatur Blue Collective and DC based artists Colby Caldwell and Billy Colbert. Now 20 years later, she has amassed a fun & eclectic contemporary collection of local and international artists including: Richard Edson, Cynthia Connolly, Ryan Hacket, Jose Ruiz, E Brady Robinson, Anita Walsh, Champ Taylor, Cara Ober, Ryan Hill, Jenny Wu, Trevor Young, Phil Nesmith, Erick Jackson, Ken Ashton, Matt Sesow, Steve Kushner, Julie Wolfe, Maya Gelfman, Shirin Neshat & Izhar Patkin, Sebastiåo Salgado & William Wegman, Cai Guo-Qiang & Kiki Smith, Alfredo Jaar & Dayanita Singh, and Kazumasa Noguchi to name a few.

Transformer's Collector's Views are truly unique events, unlike anything else presented within DC's contemporary art community. We are so pleased to be able to share this ECC exclusive View with as an introduction to our larger series.
