Sean Lynch: Bandits in the Ruins

June 09, 2012 - July 07, 2012

Overview

Transformer collaborates with DC based non-profit Solas Nua, the only organization in the US dedicated exclusively to contemporary Irish arts, to present Irish artist Sean Lynch in his first US exhibition. Sean’s artworks investigate and shine a spotlight on a range of almost-forgotten historical subjects. His research, photographs and installations advocate a kind of activism towards history, disclosing and building upon fragile stories and objects, magnifying traces of their often-idiosyncratic existence. Sean will be presenting video, photography and more at Transformer’s project space investigating and reflecting upon the methods, understandings and representations involved in dealing with contents of history.

In tandem with this exhibition, Transformer will present a comprehensive FRAMEWORK panel developed in collaboration with DC based arts organizations Pleasant Plains Workshop and Artspace DC, in tandem with their presentation of the exhibition In our Hood.  Taking place at the Gateway Center at Wardman Court, the panel entitled FRAMEWORK Panel #17:  Gentrification – Good? Bad? Indifferent? will focus on issues Sean Lynch explores in his work, as well as shared global concerns around issues of gentrification.
